Costly mistakes when self-studying.
Since childhood, I have loved to explore and learn on my own, and when I grow up, I still have a great passion for conquering new heights.
And to be able to have success like today, it must be said that the SELF-STUDY skill is the most important skill to help me achieve all my goals.
However, I used to have wrong concepts when self-studying, and that’s why I had to pay very EXPENSIVE prices for those mistakes.
Have you ever felt “struggling,” “lost,” and found yourself doing nothing effectively?
If so, you might be making one of these mistakes!
1. SELF-STUDYING is not NOT NEEDING A TEACHER
I remember when I was studying for the USMLE Step 1 exam, I thought that as long as I tried to learn the knowledge well in the classes in the school curriculum, I would get a high score.
However, I was very shocked when I saw the results of my mock test scores.
I feel confused and disappointed because I did all the things I used to do. But what I realized is that the USMLE exams are written in a completely different style than the multiple-choice exams I’ve taken before.
To be successful, it is determined that we must eliminate previous ineffective methods, and replace them with a clear strategy to both remember huge amounts of information and apply them to achieve high scores.
And finally, I decided to buy Pathoma‘s course (including videos and books), so that I can master Pathology information as quickly as possible, focusing on the information that often appears in the test.
I also use Picmonic’s memorization method to remember parasites and complex biochemical processes. miscellaneous.
After studying, I realized:
“Why didn’t I learn like this sooner?
Is it how much time and effort I will save?”
You may be wondering, is buying such a course SELF-STUDY or not?
The answer is YES.
So what is SELF-STUDY?
Self-study is being in control of your own time, schedule, hard work, and effort, without needing others to motivate or tutor you. pairs.
Self-study here is about finding effective learning methods, good people, and using them as leverage to achieve your bigger goals.
For example, to succeed in the USMLE Step 1 exam, I had to select and combine many study programs together – Pathoma’s program, Picmonic’s memorization method, learning general knowledge from First Aid, and taking practice tests from UWorld.
The important thing is that you have an effective learning method and a clear roadmap, study materials, instead of fumbling around in the dark.
In Vietnamese proverbs and folk songs, we have a saying “If you don’t have a teacher, you can do it.”
Foreign people have a saying “Stand on the shoulders of giants.”
Indeed, if we want to succeed quickly, we need to find giants. Standing on their shoulders, we will see further, understand more broadly, and make faster progress.
2. SELF-STUDYING IS NOT REINFORCING THE WHEEL
You know, I used to think that no one in this world had the same difficulties as me.
Then I struggled to find a way.
But the more you struggle, the more stuck you become. And then I realized that “I’m not so special that no one in this world has problems like me.”
So instead of struggling to solve it myself, I will find people who have gone before me who also had problems like me and have had what I want to learn from their experiences, mistakes, and lessons.
Albert Einstein once said:
“It is foolish to repeat old actions and expect new results.”
In the same way, it would be foolish if we repeat the mistakes of others and demand new results. That’s also why I share with you my mistakes so you won’t make them again in the future.
3. SELF-STUDYING is not STUDYING ALONE
There is a truth that I like to work alone and rarely want to discuss or work with anyone.
I have the thought that no one understands my problem, no one knows what I need and want, and no one can help me except me.
But over time, I realized that these thoughts made me very limited.
I also realized that there are many people around me, with the same intention as me, and also facing the same difficulties as me.
And when I open my heart to share, I get a lot of support from you, besides that I also help others.
In addition, when there is a like-minded community walking together, we also feel less lonely and less tired on our journey.
Therefore, if you are struggling alone, find quality communities to join because you may be inspired and more successful.
