DO YOU REALLY NEED A COACH TO ENTER AN AMERICAN MEDICAL REsidency?

Photo taken with me I have the honor of accompanying Vietnamese doctors as a Coach on their journey to conquer the dream of American medical residency. DO VIETNAMESE DOCTORS REALLY NEED A COACH TO ENTER US MEDICINE RESIDENCY? If you are a Vietnamese doctor who wants to enter a medical residency program in the US, you may have asked yourself: “Do I need someone to guide me, or is trying on my own enough? To study the USMLE, I can buy books, study, and review by myself. Do I need a coach?” This is a very practical question, and to answer, I want to invite you to look at a closer perspective: the world of sports. Imagine a professional runner – such as Usain Bolt, who once broke the world record in sprinting. He is lightning fast, and everyone recognizes his natural talent.  But did you know, behind those speedy

USMLE STEP 1 EXAM REGISTRATION LOCATION AND COSTS

USMLE STEP 1 EXAM REGISTRATION LOCATION AND COST   Recently, I received a number of comments and messages asking about the location and budget for the Step 1 exam, so today, I want to share more about this issue so you can plan to prepare carefully and achieve the best results for your important exam. 1. Where can Vietnamese doctors and medical students take the USMLE Step 1 exam? USMLE Step 1 is a computer-based exam, administered at Prometric testing centers worldwide. However, up to now, Vietnam still does not have any Prometric testing center licensed to organize this exam.   Therefore, if they want to pursue the path of becoming a doctor in the US, Vietnamese doctors and medical students need to go abroad – where there are licensed Prometric centers to take the exam. You can also register to take this exam in the US, or a licensed

DOCTORS’ JOB MARKET IN THE US DURING TRUMP

DOCTORS’ JOB MARKET IN THE US DURING TRUMP – How do President Trump’s new policies affect doctors’ jobs in the US?   Recently, the US economy has experienced many significant changes, from tariff policy, diplomatic relations, to the deportation of illegal immigrants, and even cases of green card holders being deported.   In addition, the Trump administration also reduced human resources at government organizations and cut funding for graduate students and universities. In that chaotic context, many people, especially young Vietnamese doctors, cannot help but wonder about the demand for jobs in the US, especially in the medical industry.   “Will I be able to get a stable job after spending so much time, effort and money to study as a doctor, pursue the USMLE, and then go to America? Or with the current constant fluctuations, will I have to do manual jobs to make ends meet?”   These concerns

MENTAL HEALTH OF RESIDENTS IN THE US

HOW IS MENTAL HEALTH CARE OF RESIDENT DOCTORS IN THE US?   As shared in previous articles, during residency training, doctors have to go through an extremely hard working period with an average of 60-80 hours of hard work per week. Therefore, lack of sleep accompanied by great mental pressure leading to burn out is a very common problem in the medical community.   Studies show that about 28% of medical residents have symptoms of depression, far exceeding the rate in the general population, and the suicide rate among physicians, including residents, is also significantly higher than in other professional groups.   These numbers show that their mental health is seriously threatened, requiring attention and specific actions.   In recent years, this has received increased attention from medical leaders, as well as the student and resident physician community. Therefore, boarding programs have also had a lot of action and practical

CAN RESIDENT DOCTORS IN THE US WORK MORE?

Are resident doctors in the US allowed to work part-time? Similar to Vietnam, during residency training, doctors in the US, in addition to focusing on their main work at the hospital, can also do part-time work (moonlighting) to increase income and accumulate experience. 1. So what is moonlighting? Moonlighting is the practice of allowing resident doctors to work overtime at the hospital they are working at or at other medical facilities, especially in areas lacking human resources such as the suburbs of the city. They can also work extra on holidays, New Year or when the main doctor is on leave. 2. What is the income level from moonlighting? This is a job that brings an extremely attractive source of income for resident doctors as the remuneration usually ranges from 100-500 USD/hour, depending on the specialty and work location.   My friend previously shared that she earned nearly $3,000 for
