9 things Americans always do to avoid stagnation in their careers — that you can do well today. (What I learned after more than 20 years in America).
Many Vietnamese people in America do very well.
Hardworking, responsible, no complaints.
But as the years passed, the position and opportunities remained roughly the same.
Not because it’s bad.
But because no one has pointed out the “hidden rules” of the working environment here.
If you don’t want to continue standing still in 2026, don’t forget these 9 things.
These things cost nothing.
No additional qualifications are needed either.
But if you do it regularly, your promotion speed in a few years will be completely different.
1. Don’t just do well — let the right people see you do well
In America, if the decision makers don’t see your results, it’s almost non-existent.
Doing well is the first step. Being seen creates opportunity.
2. State clearly what you have accomplished
Not showing off. Just clearly state your work and results.
Many people who go faster don’t do more — they just do more.
3. Write concisely and easily to understand
Emails, messages, reports… are how others evaluate you every day.
People who write clearly are often seen as people who work clearly and reliably.
4. Choose something that many people can see
Having a great job but few people know about it.
Some things are not too serious but have a wider impact.
People who go fast often choose the second job.
5. Do talk in meetings, no matter how little
Many people are good but silent because they think they don’t need to say anything.
But in America, people with a voice are often seen as people with a role.
6. Ask directly what you need to improve to move forward
Don’t wait for someone to show you.
People who move fast often ask their bosses: “What do I need to do better?”
7. Acquaintances outside the immediate scope of work
Careers are rarely decided by just one person.
Opportunities often come from people who have worked with you or know you.
8. Knowing how to say no doesn’t help you move forward
It’s not about doing more but going faster.
There are things that keep you busy… but don’t get you far.
9. Show others you want to grow
Many good people are thought that “stability is enough” just because they don’t state their goals.
In America, it’s difficult for people to support you if they don’t know where you want to go.
Standing still in his career in America
It’s not always due to lack of ability.
Many times it’s just because you haven’t been seen, understood, or remembered.
If in 2026 you want to go further in your career in the US, don’t just try to do better.
How to be seen, understood, and remembered.
