THIS DISEASE DOES NOT CAUSE PAIN, BUT MAY MAKE YOU DEPENDENT ON OTHERS WHEN YOU GET OLD

No pain. No fever. There weren’t any obvious signs. However, after just a seemingly slight slip, many people have to face broken wrists, collapsed vertebrae or serious hip fractures. That silent disease is osteoporosis.   Many Vietnamese women often pay special attention to blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol or cancer screening, but rarely think about the health of their bones and joints.   Meanwhile, after menopause, the amount of estrogen hormone drops sharply, causing bone loss to occur faster. In addition, low weight and small stature typical of Asians are also leading risk factors that increase the rate of osteoporosis.   1. Osteoporosis: The silent killer that deprives women of independence The scariest thing is that osteoporosis often does not cause any clinical symptoms for many years. You can still walk, work and live completely normally, while the bone density inside is silently decreasing over time.   Many

GOING FOR ANNUAL PHYSICAL IN THE US: WHY ARE SOMETIMES FREE AND OTHERWISE STILL RECEIVE A BILL?

In the US, the phrase Annual Physical is often referred to as a “free general examination.”   However, this word “free” actually has an extremely important limitation that if you do not understand clearly, you will easily be confused when you receive a letter demanding money from insurance.   The nature of this free treatment usually only applies to Preventive Care – that is, preventive examination, screening and proactive disease prevention services. 1. Nature of Free Preventive Care The core goal of Preventive Care is to help detect potential health risks early even when your body has never had any obvious symptoms.   Therefore, a standard routine general examination in the US will often include categories that are fully covered by insurance such as: Measure basic vital indicators: blood pressure, weight, height. The doctor reviews and re-evaluates personal and family health history. Consulting on building a healthy lifestyle,

BENEFITS FEW PEOPLE TALK ABOUT BEING A DOCTOR IN THE US – SHARING FROM DOCTORS IN THE US

This week I took my two children to Disney World. What’s interesting is that part of the funding for this trip came from… my job as a doctor. Not a reward. Not corporate travel. It’s a benefit called the Continuing Medical Education Fund – CME Fund (Continuing Medical Education Fund) that many doctors in the US enjoy every year. This is one of the benefits of being a doctor in America that are very valuable but few people talk about. 1. What is CME Fund? Operating mechanism of the Continuing Medical Education Fund in the US To maintain their license to practice, doctors in the US are required to continuously update their knowledge and complete a certain number of professional training hours each year.   Therefore, many hospitals and health systems will give doctors a separate budget for learning and professional development. Depending on the workplace, this fund

OFFICIAL UPDATE OF USMLE EXAMINATION SCHEDULE FROM 2028: STEP 1, STEP 2 CK AND STEP 3 WILL LIMIT EXAM DATES FROM 2028

From 2028, USMLE will officially switch to a completely new exam schedule system.   Instead of being able to proactively choose relatively flexible test dates all year round at Prometric centers as currently, candidates taking Step 1, Step 2 CK and Step 3 will only be allowed to take the test on a number of fixed dates predetermined by the USMLE.   This new system has an official name: Designated Testing Dates.   This important announcement has just been officially posted on the USMLE website on June 23, 2026.   The USMLE board said that starting in 2028, all three Step exams will only be held in a total of about 45 testing days per year. In return, they plan to expand the number of Prometric testing centers and reserve more test seats for candidates pursuing the USMLE route. 1. Expected USMLE exam schedule in 2028 for Step

THERE ARE DOORS IN THE US THAT GOOGLE CAN’T FIND

In America, there is one thing I realize more and more: Many people are successful not because they are better than others, but because they see opportunities that others don’t know exist. 1. The difference between walking in the fog on your own and with a guide Let’s look at the reality around us: There are people who submit 100 job applications looking for an opportunity in the US. Some people only receive a short message: “My team is recruiting. Please send me your CV.”   There are students who have to grope their way step by step to find a way to enter medical school or pharmacy school. But there are other students who know very well from a young age: Who should shadow (clinical observation). When should I start doing scientific research? Which professor should I meet? And what fatal mistakes should you avoid?   These two groups

WHY ARE SOME PEOPLE ENTERING US RESIDENCE AFTER ONLY 3 YEARS, WHY ARE SOME PEOPLE STILL Struggling after 10 years?

One of the most expensive mistakes is spending time and effort on things that don’t actually move you closer to your goals. There is a famous principle in business and investing called the 80/20 rule. Accordingly, 80% of results usually come from the 20% most important activities. What’s interesting is that this principle is also absolutely true for USMLE journey and the path to American boarding school. 1. The 80/20 rule in the USMLE journey and US boarding records Many Vietnamese doctors I have met are very hard-working people. They make efforts to get more degrees. They invest in scientific research. They actively volunteer. They participate in a lot of activities to make their profile stronger. And I want to make it clear: none of this is wrong. Research is a very important part of the application. Volunteering can show commitment to the community and ability to adapt to new
