THE US GOVERNMENT IS NO LONGER HUMANE?

Within just a few short months since starting his second term, President Trump has carried out a series of reform and shocking change, not only for the left but also for those who supported and voted for Mr.

I myself am not a politician, nor do I have a deep understanding of politics, just an ordinary American citizen who goes to work every day and pays taxes to the government. However, over the past months, I can’t help but wonder:

With this government, where will America go?

My own future – a working, tax-paying citizen in America – will be affected. What?

At first, I didn’t realize it clearly. But over time, I gradually realized that: The current US government is not a humanitarian government, but a government that demands responsibility.

Why do I say that?

1. DECISION TO CUT FOREIGN AID & CLOSE USAID: RESPONSIBILITY TO PEOPLE'S TAX MONEY

Until now, the United States has been famous for being a generous aid country to the world, through governments and non-governmental organizations.

In particular, one of the prominent organizations is USAID (United States Agency for International Development), which was established by President John F. Kennedy in 1961 with the noble purpose: “providing aid to countries recovering from disasters, finding ways to escape poverty and promoting civil reform.” owner”.

However, over time, USAID has revealed many serious problems.

This organization receives a huge budget from American taxpayers (more than 50% of the total of about 68 billion USD in international aid in 2023, equivalent to about 40 billion USD), but operates ineffectively, independently and often does not bring any practical benefits to the American people.

Internal corruption is also an undeniable problem.

That amount of tens of billions of dollars does not come from nowhere. That’s all earned by the sweat and effort of hundreds of millions of working Americans who pay taxes.

That’s why just 1 month after taking office, President Trump issued a policy to close USAID. As of February 2, 2025, USAID’s website was offline, and employees were asked to stay home.

This decision inevitably shocks world public opinion, especially those who have been receiving aid before

“Why is this so? Why is there no aid for this or that anymore? Until now, there has been normal aid. Why, why is the new government so inhumane? no?

Our grandparents taught: “First, cultivate at home, second, cultivate in the market, third, cultivate in the pagoda.”

When you and your family are still facing many difficulties and lack of finances, is giving money to “offerings” everywhere a good and sustainable way?

Loving outsiders while leaving family members in difficult situations, is it really “humane”? I believe you have the answer.

Similarly, the decision to close USAID may not be “humane” in the eyes of the world, but in the current context, it demonstrates the government’s supreme responsibility to citizens and national finances. This amount of aid reduction, when returned to the country, will create much better conditions for many Americans who still lack health care, education and social security.

Only when the country is strong and the people are prosperous, will the return of aid be truly sustainable and meaningful.

According to the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, Americans have long supported cutting foreign aid. This time too, President Trump’s decision to close USAID has received widespread support from the majority of Americans and is considered a responsible action towards taxpayers in his country.

2. TIGHTEN IMMIGRATION POLICY: RESPONSIBILITY TO PROTECT CITIZEN SECURITY AND WELFARE

The second decision, which was equally shocking, was the government’s strong efforts to prevent and deport illegal immigrants, numbering up to tens of thousands of people.

There have also been many voices criticizing that this is an inhumane and inhumane policy:

“Why not open our arms to welcome those who have gone through so much suffering and expense to come to America in search of a better life? Deporting them, Is it humane to leave their lives and work unfinished?”

Once again, imagine your family is peaceful and healthy. Suddenly, every day, strangers come from nowhere, voluntarily entering your house to eat, sleep, bathe, use all amenities, and even spend your money. Some people even curse and even beat your children. At this point, what will you do?

Continue to “humanely” take care of them, despite the insecurity, expense and danger for your own family? Or restore order and security for the house by asking these uninvited guests to leave?

As a father and mother, I believe that no one is “humane” enough to accept sacrificing the safety and legitimate rights of their children for those who live in the same place.

Furthermore, if viewed from the perspective of a sovereign nation, protecting borders and maintaining an orderly immigration system are the mandatory responsibilities of any government. A chaotic immigration system not only affects national security but also puts a burden on the health, education and social security systems.

The government, like the head of the family, has the responsibility to protect security, order and ensure the welfare of the legal citizens they are responsible for serving.

Tightly controlling the border and deporting illegal immigrants, especially those with criminal records, is an act of demonstrating that responsibility. Although it may seem “unhumane” in the eyes of some people, it is currently popular with many Americans.

3. TIGHTEN CONTROL ON INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Not only illegal immigrants, but some international students studying in the US also had their student visas cut off and were forced to return home. He even asked US consulates around the world to temporarily suspend visa interviews for international students.

“Why deport international students?

Why don’t people have the right to freedom of speech, to voice their opinions and thoughts when America is a country that values freedom of speech?”

Especially in recent times, the Harvard incident has consumed a lot of media. Accordingly, the school was banned by the Trump administration from accepting more international students and had to stop training international students currently studying at the school.

“Why do people come to our house, people become our guests, people bring money to our country, but we send them back,  not allowing them to voice their opinions?

If America makes things difficult like that, they will all go to schools like Thanh Hoa and Bac Dai in China. So isn’t that a big loss of revenue for the country?”

But if you have time to slow down a bit and look deeply at the reasons these people were deported, you will understand the decisions of law enforcement.

Suppose now that an international student goes to Thanh Hoa and Bac Dai to set up groups to defame the Chinese government and defame leader Xi Jinping in an organized manner, would the Chinese government leave that student alone to exercise the right to “freedom of speech”?

Or more simply, go back to our family context.

Your family is opening its arms to welcome a group of guests to your home. However, these people often gather around to gossip, criticize, oppose you, and sometimes even destroy things in your house. Their main purpose in coming to your house is not to learn, but to disturb the peace of your family. Do you want to continue letting them stay?

Agree that there will be kind guests, they come to America, to Harvard simply to study and develop, they absolutely do not do anything wrong or intend to oppose the government but are also affected by this decision. This is really something I feel sorry for when they are unfortunately affected like that. But in the end, it’s just because Harvard’s leaders don’t cooperate with the government.

Although the Trump administration’s decision against Harvard is quite harsh and probably will not be implemented, I think this is also a way of raising a low blow from the Trump administration to help Harvard leaders understand the seriousness of the incident, thereby taking measures to correct protest activities, because this is not the first time this issue has been mentioned between the two sides.

In the past, Harvard has been asked many times to strictly manage all international student groups with hostile thoughts towards the US as well as protest activities and propaganda supporting terrorism, but Harvard has ignored them.

There must be some kind of policy to stop such activities to ensure the security of other students, helping them have a safe and healthy environment to study.

Putting myself in the position of a normal student at Harvard, with great difficulty getting into school, and just wanting to focus on studying, but there are always protests at the school, with groups of this and that group gathering to burn down the school, smashing tables and chairs, not worrying about studying but only focusing on propaganda against the government, how can I feel safe and focus on studying in such an environment?

If you decide to be “humane” with the “freedom of speech” of those groups of students, are you being humane with the rest – the majority of the school’s students?

They also pay a lot of tuition like the others but only go to school with the sole purpose of acquiring knowledge, developing their career and long-term future.

The question is why do Harvard leaders turn a blind eye to the safety of the majority of their students? Why weren’t there any effective measures to end the protests, but instead they were openly opposing the government and now President Trump is making such a big deal?

I think in the end, the two sides will negotiate and come to a lighter decision, but one thing is certain: Harvard leaders need to have some cooperation and some move to end such terrorist support activities in the US.

We cannot continue to let foreigners with money come to America to incite protests and affect the safety of other students.

4. CUTTING SOCIAL WELFARE: THE DEMAND FOR PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY

As I mentioned in the previous article, a major controversial point in President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” bill is the proposal to cut support packages such as Medicaid, especially for certain groups of people in the US and illegal immigrants.

Medicaid – the government-run health insurance program government grants – which are an effective form of assistance for vulnerable American citizens: low-income people, pregnant women, newborns, and people with disabilities.

 >

However, in reality, many problems have recently arisen. Some states, such as California, through their own entities, have sought to expand Medicaid to include illegal immigrants. This means that they can enjoy medical examination and treatment services, testing, treatment and medicine completely free of charge.

 >

In addition, as I have shared, many young men who are healthy and able to work choose not to work and apply for unemployment benefits or other benefits to save money. Living on state support.

  >

These things are creating a huge burden on the national treasury, seriously affecting social finances. Faced with that situation, the Trump administration believes that it is time for each person to live more responsibly with themselves and the community, and not continue with the mindset of “glutton and laziness” and relying on state subsidies forever.

And once again, the question of “humanity” is raised: “The government Now it’s no longer humane! Doing so will cause many people to lose their insurance, affecting their health and quality of life! But as I said from the beginning: This is no longer a humanitarian government of unconditional giving. This is a government that demands accountability. It’s time for each individual to take responsibility for their own lives, instead of putting it all on the shoulders of the state and society.

 >

Why does it seem so “bad”? Why is a government so “strict”?

The answer lies in a simple truth: There is no free lunch. Life operates according to that principle. If you are completely healthy but choose to live dependently, relying on the tax money of people who are “going dark” and “sweating and crying” every day, then this policy is the necessary wake-up call to motivate you to stand up, not an act of “less humanity” or “compelling” anyone.

When you no longer receive a monthly allowance check to spend on entertainment, alcohol, gambling, or even drugs; When you can no longer easily get free medical treatment for all your needs, you will be forced to go to work. You are forced to work to earn money to cover your life and take care of your health, which will create a lot of value for society.

 >

This policy of President Trump is sending a strong message: welfare cannot be a default, unconditional thing. It requires people’s active participation – going to work, paying taxes, and being responsible to the community.

5. THE GOVERNMENT DEMANDS RESPONSIBILITY

Looking back at the controversial moves of President Trump’s administration, I see a consistent philosophy, clearly expressed through three aspects:

5.1 RESPONSIBILITIES TO OUR COUNTRY'S CITIZENS FIRST:

The US government has no direct responsibility to the people of other countries.

In a difficult economic context, cutting huge aid amounts such as closing USAID is necessary to protect the rights and resources of the American people.

This also forces other governments to be responsible to their citizens, instead of relying on external resources like previous aid programs.

5.2 RESPONSIBILITY TO COMPLY WITH THE LAW & RESPECT SOVEREIGNTY:

Anyone who sets foot in the United States, especially illegal immigrants, must first be responsible for themselves and respect the laws of the host country.

Why do millions of LEGAL immigrants have to wait decades, invest money and assets, and strictly obey the law, while those who cross the border illegally think their situation is “more difficult” so they deserve priority, even committing extravagant acts, violating the law, causing security disturbances?

Hundreds, thousands of law violations each year from this group are a significant burden and threat to the safety and order of American society.

No responsible government can stand by and watch this continue. Deporting illegal immigrants, especially violators, is an act to protect order and justice for those who have entered the United States legitimately.

5.3 PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY & SELF-RESPONSE:

No matter who you are – international student, worker, or American citizen – you are responsible for your life.

  • For international students: Focus on studying, respect America – the place that gives you opportunities and quality education. Do not be drawn into organizations supporting terrorism or anti-government activities, taking advantage of freedom of speech to cause insecurity and disorder.
  • For people in America: The philosophy “if you work, you will eat” is immutable. The state will support those who are truly unlucky: people with serious illnesses, the elderly, pregnant women, children, and people with disabilities. But if you are healthy, young, have enough hands and feet and have the ability to work but are lazy and choose to rely on benefits, this government will not tolerate it. Tightening benefits such as cutting Medicaid for abusers is to promote this spirit of self-reliance.

In short, the US government, especially under President Trump in this term, may not have the appearance of a humane government in the way that many people expect – not soft, not compromising and sometimes very drastic, even shocking.

 >

But clearly, this is an administration that emphasizes and demands a sense of responsibility: the responsibility of the government to the American people, and the responsibility of each citizen to the country.

 >

Not everyone agrees, but if we look at it objectively and fairly, perhaps it’s time for us to reconsider the definition of “humanitarian” – not just giving, but also knowing how to manage, knowing how to set limits, and knowing how to say “no” when necessary. set.

And you, how do you feel about the above decisions of the Trump administration? Please comment to let me know.

Wish you a happy evening.
